The Fall season (particularly in Michigan) reminds us here at #RucksOnParade about all the great things that we love…leaves turning magnificent colors, football in full swing, cider, hot sugary donuts from apple orchards and - of course - flannel shirts can be seen far and wide. During this season, we love to sit by the campfire and ponder the meaning of life over a dark craft brew. However, this particular time, we may have had too many donuts or craft brews and our conversation centered around Lumberjacks. Yep, Lumberjacks. You’re welcome.

EARN THE PATCH.

The Lumberjack Ruck will simulate exercises from that of - you guessed it - a Lumberjack. First and always, RUCK UP. GORUCK suggests 30 pounds for anyone weighing in over 150 pounds or 20 pounds for anyone weighing less than 150 pounds…of course, modify as necessary.

Next, find a friend or a group of friends and find a LOG. Yes, summon your internal Lumberjack and head into the woods and look for a log that will provide a challenge but also will allow you the ability to ruck 3 miles to the workout - and - ruck 3 miles back to civilization. Of course, a log can be substituted by a telephone pole, railroad tie, etc. If you are rolling solo, we would suggest a 40 pound sandbag…but again, modify as necessary for the distance.

Once you have rucked three miles with the log, then its time for the workout (as shown below).

Perform the following as 1 set. Complete 4 sets in total (i.e. 25 Burpee Ruck Jumps X 4 sets = 100 total).

  • 25 Burpee Ruck Jumps (i.e. Burpee then Jump over Ruck)

  • 25 Goblet Squats

  • 25 Ruck Tricep Extensions

  • 25 Ruck Swings

  • Ruck Drag 200 yds (Drag your ruck 100 yds down; 100 yds back)

  • Suit Case Carry 200 yds (100 yds down; 100 yds back - alternating hands)

Now, grab your log or sandbag and ruck back to the AO (starting point) 3 miles away.

While doing so, be sure to use the hashtag #RucksOnParade and prove to us that you’re getting after it.
