The ‘RUCK YOUR ASS OFF’ patch - May ‘20. DO IT.

RUCK YOUR ASS OFF - RUCK CHALLENGE.

We have all seen it…the picture of a soldier carrying a donkey on social media. According to social media:

This picture [is] from World War II, a soldier carrying a donkey. It is not that the soldier loves donkeys or has some sort of perversion. What’s happening is that the field is mined and that if the donkey was free to wander as it pleased, it would likely detonate a charge and kill everyone. The moral of the story is that during difficult times the first ones you have to keep under control are the jackasses who don’t understand the danger and do as they please.

While that is a great story and very relevant in this day and age…this is not actually where this picture comes from. According to snopes.com, here is the real story behind the picture:

The picture actually dates from 1958, during the Algerian War (i.e., a war for independence waged against French forces in Colonial Algeria). And it depicts a starving donkey that was rescued by a member of the French Foreign Legion who carried it back to his base, where the animal was nursed back to health, given the name “Bambi,” and adopted as a unit mascot.

Here at Rucks On Parade, we like the idea of nursing the animal back to health…but we really like the idea of carrying additional weight on our back - better. Also, we think a solider carrying a donkey makes for a sweet looking patch and it gave us a great idea for a monthly rucking challenge…

COMPLETE THE CHALLENGE.
EARN THE PATCH.

To complete the - RUCK YOUR ASS OFF - rucking challenge, you must ruck at least 5 miles per week for 4 weeks straight (20 miles total). Each week you must incrementally increase your weight.

Weekly Ruck Example:

Week 1 - Ruck 30 pounds over 5 miles
Week 2 - Ruck 40 pounds over 5 miles
Week 3 - Ruck 50 pounds over 5 miles
Week 4 - Ruck 60 pounds over 5 miles

As you can see, the weight really starts to add up towards the end of the month, so be sure to choose your starting weight carefully. The weight is really up to you. Want to start at 10 pounds? OK. Want to add only 5 pounds each week? SURE. Do whatever makes you happy, just get out there and put in the miles and #GETSOME.
