Battle of chosin reservoir

BATTLE OF CHOSIN RESERVOIR.
November 27 - December 13, 1950

Chosin Reservoir is a man-made lake located in the northeast of the Korean peninsula. The battle's main focus was around the 78-mile long road that connects Hungnam and Chosin Reservoir, which served as the only retreat route for the UN forces.

“The Battle of Chosin Reservoir is regarded by some historians as the most brutal in modern warfare by violence, casualty rate, weather conditions, and endurance. Over the course of fourteen days, 17 Medals of Honor (Army and Navy) and 78 Service Cross Medals (Army and Navy) were awarded, the second most as of 2019 after the Battle of the Bulge.”

The battle was fought over some of the roughest terrain during some of the harshest winter weather conditions of the Korean War. The road was created by cutting through the hilly terrain of Korea, with steep climbs and drops. On 14 November 1950, a cold front from Siberia descended over the Chosin Reservoir, and the temperature plunged, according to estimates, to as low as −36 °F . The cold weather was accompanied by frozen ground, creating considerable danger of frostbite casualties, icy roads, and weapon malfunctions. Medical supplies froze; morphine syrettes had to be defrosted in a medic's mouth before they could be injected; frozen blood plasma was useless on the battlefield.

EARN THE PATCH.

In honor of those that fought in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir (ending Dec 13, 1950), we have put together a WOD that will give us a small taste (particularly those in colder environments) of what movements a solider would have used during the war.

TO GET THE FULL EFFECT - THE ‘BATTLE OF CHOSIN RESERVOIR’ WOD IS BEST DONE IN SNOW AND IN COLDER TEMPERATURES

First and always, RUCK UP. GORUCK suggests 30 pounds for anyone weighing in over 150 pounds or 20 pounds for anyone weighing less than 150 pounds…of course, modify as necessary.

First, last or split it up, we request a 7.8 mile long ruck to symbolize the 78-mile long road that served as the only retreat route for the UN forces.

2 sets of the following (100 yards down; 100 yards back):
